Over the years, many species have been grown here from Roses to Giant Philodendrons. Long term plans incorporate the fullest use of all fifty acres in both amenity and commercial crops.
Currently we have catalogued 350 endemic and exotic species and a small leaflet is being prepared for your interest and self-orientation.
The grounds at Strawberry Hill are interesting and historical as the property has been in existance as a coffee farm from around 1890. The main canopy is of Juniper (Juniperus barbadea) lining the old driveway with specimens of Cedar (Cedrela odoratissma), Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus nicolae) and Mango (Mangifera indica).
The gardens is an ongoing process as we have refined only 4 acres out of a possible 10 acres of terraced land and a further 35 acres of slopes. During the next few years we shall be establishing a program of expansion that will include both amenity and commerical collections representing a portion of the past and future of tropical gardens and gardening in Jamaica.
It is an ambitious project, however 300 plant species have already been catalogued; click here to view a few of the more glamorous flowering vines and plants.
